More testing is now available in Shasta County. Anyone with the symptoms of COVID-19, including fever, cough and shortness of breath, should request a test from their healthcare provider or Public Health at 225-5591. In addition to the regular tests, Mercy Medical Center has received some rapid result test kits that can show the presence of Coronavirus within an hour. They ordered 3000 of the kits but only got less than 100. Shasta County Public Health Officer Doctor Karen Ramstrom says that this week epidemiologists and other experts will develop a workable model for predicting when COVID cases will peak for the area, though she says the data will become more and more reliable as increased testing presents a larger sample of the population.
