Update: Body Recovered From Sacramento River

Deputies with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team have recovered a body believed to be the man who went missing Sunday afternoon when he tried to swim across the Sacramento River in Anderson. The body was found at about 10:45AM Monday near the bank of the river near Anderson River Park. Shortly after 2 O’clock Sunday afternoon, a 31-year-old man at Anderson River Park wanted to get to the other side of the river, where his friend had a broken down jet ski. The man attempted to swim across the river, which is swift and very cold. He got about halfway and began to go under. After going under and resurfacing a few times, he was not seen again. Someone in a drift boat tried to rescue him but could not reach him in time. The Coroners Office is investigating and will release the man’s identity after his next-of-kin is notified.
