Man Will Stand Trial For Fatal DUI Crash Near Whiskeytown

A Redding man has been ordered to stand trial for murder after killing a woman in a head-on crash in January. 27-year-old Diana Elizabeth Schalk of Pembroke, Kentucky was driving a Chevy S10 pickup on Highway 299 east of Grizzly Gulch Road near the Whiskeytown Scales when she was struck head-on by a Toyota pickup driven by 42-year-old Hawk Blaze Bergstrom. He suffered major injuries and was arrested for felony driving under the influence of alcohol. Schalk was declared dead at the scene. Bergstrom had a preliminary hearing Wednesday. He has a prior DUI from 2015 as well. He’ll be arraigned again on June 10th for second degree murder and other charges.
