RPD Releases ID Of Man Shot By Deputies In Cottonwood

Some information has been released about the fatal shooting of a Cottonwood man by a Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputy on Tuesday. The investigation is being done by Redding Police, who have identified the dead man as 65-year-old Robert Lyon. At 10:39AM deputies were called to a home on Adobe Road off Balls Ferry Road by a woman saying Lyon had threatened her with a gun. Lyon and the woman apparently both lived at the home. When deputies arrived Lyon was still inside and they called out on their loudspeakers for him to come out. Eventually he did, but he still had the shotgun in his hands. He refused to put the gun down and a deputy hit Lyon with several rifle rounds.Lyon was pronounced dead at the scene. Anyone with helpful information should contact Redding Police at 225-4200.
