A newly hired Anderson Police Officer on his first solo patrol shift got to stop a fire on Sunday. Officer Kyle Carpenter was the first on the scene of a vegetation fire near North Street and Driftstone Drive. He went after the flames with a fire extinguisher and kept it from spreading until firefighters arrived. The fire happened in the area of a homeless camp, and a police drone was used to scan the area and try to find whomever it was who started fire. Several other camps were found nearby and three people were contacted. They all had outstanding warrants and were arrested.
