A Happy Valley man has been found guilty of first degree murder for shooting his roommate. The killing happened on the afternoon of February 6th of last year at a home on Happy Valley Road at Hidden Ranch Road. A 9-1-1 call brought deputies and when they arrived, 36-year-old Michael Patrick O’Connell and his mother were standing outside. O’Connell, with a 12-gauge shotgun in his hands, had pounded on the bedroom door of his roommate, Adam Mancebo, demanding that he leave the home immediately. O’Connell then returned to the living room, where his mother was sitting on the couch. Mancebo walked into the living room in his boxer shorts and nothing in his hands. He took a few steps into the room and O’Connell shot him in the chest with double-ought buckshot. O’Connell’s mother ran outside and called 9-1-1. The jury on Friday found the murder to be willful, deliberate and premeditated, with a special allegation of the use of a firearm. Sentencing is set for November 30th.
