Multiple Fire Break Out Sunday Under Red Flag Conditions

Sunday’s series of fires in Shasta County proved that neither electrical storms nor electric lines are needed to start large fires.

The Point Fire in Cottonwood started near the intersection of Gas Point Road and Libby Lane. At last word it was 90% contained at 275 acres.

The Dersch Fire started near Leopard Drive off Millville Plains Road, reportedly by a man who was angry with his girlfriend and lit her car on fire so she couldn’t leave. He was arrested by Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies. It jumped Dersch Road and headed toward Parkville Road. Forward progress was stopped and at last word it was 90% contained at 133 acres.

The Olinda Fire is actually multiple fires that started under suspicious circumstances off West Anderson Drive near Davidson Lane southwest of Anderson, burning a total of around 6 acres.

The Bailey Fire started near Long Hay Flat Road and Bailey Road off Highway 44 west of Viola. It was stopped at around 6 acres.
