A former Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputy faces criminal charges for a fatal crash that occurred last year while he was on duty. Just after 8 O’clock on November 6th of last year, Deputy Henry Taylor was responding to a non-emergency call for service that was over an hour and half old. He was apparently driving a patrol vehicle at more than 100 miles an hour on Highway 299 west of Lower Springs Road when he hit a deer, causing him to lose control and collide head-on with an oncoming Toyota sedan with three occupants. The crash killed a passenger in the Toyota and sent the driver to the hospital. It also left a juvenile with major injuries. The DA’s Office has charged Taylor with felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, two counts of felony reckless driving causing injury and an infraction for driving over 100 miles an hour.
