A Shasta Lake City assault suspect was captured by a K9 Saturday evening. Robert Turner called 9-1-1 from Red Bud Lane to report that his neighbor, 31-year-old Justin Leon Barnes, was at his home and had assaulted him. While deputies were en route, they were told that Barnes was outside Turner’s home with a baseball bat making threats. He did not have the bat when they got there. He was told to get on the ground but he instead challenged the deputies to fight him. They declined but Ace the K9 engaged Barnes. After a visit to the hospital Barnes was booked into jail. Turner was also treated at a hospital for injuries reportedly inflicted by Barnes. A deputy and Ace the K9 were both injured as well, but did not require medical attention.
