Monday Update: Surge In New Cases Tied To Halloween Parties

Shasta County reported 178 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend. 164 Coronavirus cases were reported on Wednesday and Thursday of last week. The total now stands at 2,630. 34 people have died from the virus. Most the new cases were under the age of 40 and included 19 teenagers and 7 children under the age of 13. 17 people are currently hospitalized and two are in intensive care. Public Health says many of the cases can be tied to Halloween parties. There are 122 active cases, and 361 people are quarantined due to possible exposure.

Shasta County’s purple tier restrictions went into effect at Midnight Saturday night. State agencies will likely take a more aggressive enforcement role now that the county has entered the most severe level of restrictions. Shasta County must remain in the purple tier for at least 3 weeks and must show red tier numbers for two consecutive weeks before restrictions will ease. The latest data shows a test positivity rate of 10.5%.

Public Health says anyone who tests positive should self quarantine immediately and begin notifying anyone with whom they’ve been in close contact. Instructions are at shastaready.org.

Tehama County is up to 1,018 cases, and two more deaths were reported for a total of 19. Trinity County has had 43. Butte County has had 3,297 cases and 56 deaths. Glenn County has had 716 cases and 3 deaths. There have been 292 in Siskiyou County and 586 in Humboldt County with 9 deaths. Modoc County has surged to 75 cases. Lassen County has had one death among their 150 cases in the community and 644 in prison.
