3:30PM Thursday: 2 Additional Deaths Reported As Cases Top 2,800

Shasta County reported nearly 150 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. No numbers were released Wednesday due to the Veterans Day holiday. 83 new cases were reported Tuesday and another 62 on Wednesday for a total of 2,816. Two more people have died from the virus bringing the total to 36. The latest fatal cases include a man in his 80’s and a man in his 60’s. Of the new cases 90 were women and 55 were men. The vast majority of new cases have been younger people under the age of 40. 31 people are now hospitalized in Shasta County. There are 147 active cases and 336 people are quarantined due to possible exposure.

Trinity County, with a total of 62 cases, is testing in Weaverville, Hayfork and Lewiston. Appointments can be made at trinitycounty.org/mobile-test.

Both Siskiyou and Modoc Counties are moving from yellow into the more restrictive orange tier. Siskiyou County has one death among 321 cases. Modoc County has jumped to 80 cases.

Tehama County is up to 1,084 cases and 19 deaths. Butte County has had 3,371 cases and 56 deaths, including someone in their 20’s with no underlying conditions. Glenn County has had 733 cases and now 5 deaths. 586 cases are reported in Humboldt County with 9 deaths. Lassen County has had one death among their 164 cases in the community and 644 in prison.

Widespread testing is a vital component in getting Shasta County out of the purple tier. A second state testing site besides Shasta College will be announced soon, and a mobile testing team is being assembled as well. There have been 72,730 negative tests in Shasta County.
