Woman Charged With Insurance Fraud After Lying About Drunken Crash

An Anderson woman is accused of insurance fraud after allegedly crashing her car while drunk and then reporting it stolen. In January, 36-year-old Donn Lurrinda Hayden, who was on parole at the time, filed a police report and an insurance claim saying she was drinking at a bar in Downtown Redding when someone stole her 2006 Mustang. Police found the car where it had crashed into an embankment about a mile from downtown. A trail of Hayden’s belongings led away from the crash scene and witnesses described a woman who looked like Hayden fleeing the crash. Hayden’s parole agents identified her voice in the background of a 9-1-1 call made from the scene of the crash during which Hayden is heard yelling aggressively at the caller to hang up. Several hours later she called the RPD to report the car stolen. Her insurance company ended up paying out $6,500 for the claim. The California Department of Insurance investigation ended in Hayden’s arrest Thursday and the District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case.
