Shasta County Sheriff Eric Magrini and Redding Police Chief Bill Schueller have both made it clear that local law enforcement will not be helping the state’s efforts to contain Coronavirus. A statement released Friday from the sheriff says the department will not enforce the compliance of any health or emergency orders related to curfews, stay-at-home orders, social gatherings inside or outside the home, maximum occupancy or mask mandates within private or business communities. The chief released a similar statement, saying his department does not have adequate resources to enforce the curfew, which he says may have serious constitutional implications. Both the sheriff and the chief implore the public to follow the safe practices recommended by public health.
