Man With Extensive Criminal Record Arrested After Violent Confrontation At Auto Parts Store

A man fought with people at an East Redding auto parts store before fleeing into a neighborhood Monday. 47-year-old Jason Alex Wood was at the O’Reilly Auto Parts on Hartnell at Victor at around 1 O’clock, allegedly tampering with an employee’s vehicle. He was confronted by the car’s owner, 38-year-old Michael Gore. Wood charged at Gore, striking him in the face and knocking him to the ground. Just then, 58-year-old Jerry Loranger drove into the parking lot and saw Wood standing over Gore with knives in both hands, looking like he was about to stab him. Loranger drove directly at Wood in a desperate attempt to prevent what looked like a deadly situation. The move made Wood step back. He then reportedly kicked and dented Loranger’s car and used both of his knives to shatter the driver’s side window. Meanwhile, Gore and Loranger both armed themselves with items at hand and confronted Wood, who turned and ran away. Redding Police, with help from a CHP helicopter, searched the area until around 2 O’clock when someone called from Cambria Court to report seeing Wood crawling out of Churn Creek. Officers swooped in and arrested Wood. He’s been booked into Shasta County jail 24 times in the past 30 years, with multiple felony convictions and prison terms.
