Red Bluff Marine Laid To Rest 77 Years After Being Killed In WW II

A U.S. Marine has been laid to rest in the North State 77 years and one day after he was killed in World War Two. Marine Private First Class Thomas Frank Johnson was a Red Bluff native who was killed in the Battle of Tarawa in the Republic of Kiribati in the South Pacific in 1943. His remains were recently discovered, identified and returned to Red Bluff. On Monday a procession led from Red Bluff, up Interstate 5 to Gas Point Road, ending at the Northern California Veteran’s Cemetery in Igo. Johnson was given a funeral with full military honors.
