A special effort by the California Highway Patrol over this long thanksgiving weekend will focus on slowing down the flow of traffic and making sure everyone is buckled up. A maximum enforcement period begins at 6 O’clock Wednesday evening and lasts through Midnight on Sunday. Seatbelt compliance will be the major focus, but CHP DUI and drug recognition experts will also be combing the roads for impaired drivers. During the 2019 Thanksgiving holiday there were 42 people killed on California roadways and 11 of them were not wearing a seatbelt. 867 arrests were made for driving under the influence.
