A man was busted early Wednesday morning with guns that he’s prohibited from possessing. 56-year-old Steven Schlapia has prior felony convictions. At 1:45AM he was driving a 1967 Chevy Malibu through Downtown Redding on Pine Street with no headlights. He passed by a couple of police officers, glanced at them, and then sped away. Schlapia was pulled over and the officers say he was immediately hostile, but eventually complied and got out of the car. The Chevy was searched and officers reported finding a 9 millimeter handgun between the front seats with a loaded magazine and a round in the chamber. A 22 caliber rifle was also found with an attached loaded magazine and an extra magazine for the rifle was in Schlapia’s pocket. He was booked into jail on several charges.
