Man Sentenced To 50 Years To Life In Prison For 2019 Murder

A Happy Valley man has been given a sentence of 50 years to life in state prison for the murder of his roommate. The killing happened on the afternoon of February 6th of last year at a home on Happy Valley Road at Hidden Ranch Road. 36-year-old Michael Patrick O’Connell was holding a 12-gauge shotgun when he pounded on the bedroom door of his roommate, Adam Mancebo, demanding that he leave the home immediately. O’Connell then returned to the living room, where his mother was sitting on the couch. Mancebo then walked into the living room with nothing in his hands and O’Connell shot him in the chest with the shotgun. O’Connell’s mother ran outside and called 9-1-1. In October a Shasta County jury found the murder to be willful, deliberate and premeditated, with a special allegation of the use of a firearm. During the sentencing hearing, two of Mancebo’s family members spoke about the loss of their loved one.
