Redding has a new Mayor, and a new council member. Following certification of the results from the November 3rd election, City Clerk Pam Mize gave the oath of office to incumbent Julie Winter and to new city council member Mark Mezanno. Next, the council chose Erin Reisner as mayor for the next year, but not before Winter floated a motion to choose Kristen Schreader. That motion died for lack of support. Outgoing Mayor Adam McElvain, who came in third place in votes, was honored for his service to the city before departing the chamber. As Mayor, McElvain presided over the city’s response to COVID-19 and helped bring air service to Redding from Los Angeles. His ambitious plan to bring high speed internet to the citizens of Redding through a fiber network was never realized, although it is available for all city owned facilities.
