A lawsuit has been filed against PG&E by Shasta and Tehama Counties blaming them for the Zogg Fire. The suit filed Thursday in San Francisco says the utility was negligent in failing to remove a Gray Pine that had been identified as a hazard. Because it was not removed in time, the tree contacted electric lines and started the fire, burning more than 56,000 acres, destroying more than 200 buildings and killing four residents as they tried to escape the flames. PG&E filed papers last month that also blamed the same tree as a possibly cause. The suit seeks to recover the public expenditures resulting from the fire, alleging negligence, nuisance, trespass and other violations.
