6:30AM Monday: Holiday Surge Expected, Northern ICU Capacity Drops To 28.8%

Shasta County’s latest COVID-19 data is from last Wednesday and they will not release an updated report until sometime Monday afternoon. 151 new cases were reported from last Tuesday for a running total of 7,567. The virus has killed 70 Shasta County residents. An estimated 596 people were infected with the virus, 57 of them hospitalized and 7 of them in intensive care. The regional ICU capacity decreased slightly to 28.8%. A drop to 15% would trigger the stay at home order that’s already imposed on most of the state.

Butte County has reported 6,584 cases and 83 deaths.
Tehama County has had 3,017 cases and 34 deaths.
Trinity County has had 2 deaths among 265 cases.
1,076 have been reported in Siskiyou County with 8 deaths.
Glenn County has had 1,336 cases and 14 deaths.
Humboldt County has had 1,584 cases and 18 deaths.
Lassen County has had 7 deaths among their 1259 cases in the community and one death among the 2,921 cases in prison.
Modoc County has reached 307 cases.

State officials are expected to extend the strictest stay-at-home orders in central and Southern California as hospitals there are quickly running out of intensive care unit beds for Coronavirus patients ahead of the presumed post-holiday surge. The situation is already dire, and the worst is expected to come in the next few weeks after Christmas and New Year’s travelers return home. California hit 2 million confirmed Coronavirus cases on Christmas Eve.

Local healthcare leaders are pleading with the public to slow the spread through the practices that have been recommended for months: Stay home and away from other people as much as possible and wear face coverings when going out. It’s up to everyone to protect those who are most vulnerable, and those who work in jobs that don’t give them the option to work remotely.

Public health is strongly urging everyone to get tested. It’s free and convenient with sites in Shasta Lake, Anderson, North Redding, Enterprise and Shasta College. The testing site at Breslauer Way has been moved to the Senior Hall on Benton Drive. Testing is by appointment only at lhi.care/covidtesting or visit shastaready.org.
