The CHP says a Weaverville man was drunk when he caused a major injury traffic collision on Christmas. At 10:40PM 29-year-old Alfred Estrada was westbound on Highway 299 west of Tucker Hill Road when he lost control of his 2006 Honda on a sweeping right curve. The car went into a spin and crossed over the center line into the path of an oncoming 2012 Hyundai driven by 25-year-old Britni Pavlacky of Idaho. The Hyundai broadsided the Honda and Estrada, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected. He and Pavlacki both suffered major injuries and were transported to Mercy Hospital in Redding. Estrada was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. The CHP says at least 38 people died statewide during a maximum enforcement period over the long holiday weekend. 573 DUI arrests were made.
