A year of changes due to the pandemic has had a significant effect on the types of crimes committed in Shasta County, according to the District Attorney’s Office. Domestic violence has increased, with 613 cases filed last year compared to 573 in 2019. Sex-related offenses increased to 75 last year, compared to 63 the previous year. The year saw a decrease in theft crimes, dropping from 1,062 to 847. Law enforcement agencies referred 11,075 cases to the D.A.’s Office, around 77% of which were misdemeanors.
