A woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson by Cal-Fire Law Enforcement and Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies. At 12:45PM Monday afternoon fire crews were called to Big Bend Road about a mile north of Highway 299, where a Volkswagon Jetta was on fire, with flames spreading to the vegetation. The car burned up but the vegetation fire was held to about a quarter acre. Witnesses had reported seeing a woman walking away from the fire along Big Bend Road. About 2 hours later and about 3 miles away deputies encountered 24-year-old Clarissa Clark of Montgomery Creek walking along the highway. She reportedly admitted to Cal-Fire personnel that she had started the fire. Clark was booked into jail for arson to property, arson of forestland and carrying a concealed dagger.
