The annual headcount of homeless people will be severely hindered due to Covid concerns. Every year the Shasta County Continuum of Care tries to count everyone living on the streets, under bridges and in the bushes. The information is used by Federal HUD officials to allocate funding for every county in the U.S. Those receiving services from places like the Good News Rescue Mission will still be counted, but the unsheltered count will be waived. Because of that, not nearly as many volunteers will be needed as in previous years, but some are still needed, with sign-ups at shastapointintime.info. The point-in-time count will take place next Tuesday.
