An accused murderer has made a court appearance. At around 3AM on October 4th medical help and Redding Police were called to the AM/PM at Buenaventura and Railroad Avenue. 35-year-old Emmanuel Vega was on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a hospital but died a short time later. The shooter had already fled when officers arrived, but witnesses and surveillance footage led to 33-year-old James Joshua Noyes. His many arrests include for drugs, theft, domestic violence, DUI, concealed weapons and resisting arrest. He went to prison for burglary 3 years ago and seriously injured another prisoner while he was there. Noyes was still on parole from his release in February. The day before the murder Noyes was arrested for Methamphetamine possession, but because the jail was near capacity he was released a few hours later. After investigators identified Noyes in the shooting, an arrest warrant was issued and that afternoon he was captured after a 100 mile an hour chase that started in North Redding and ended when he tried to exit Interstate 5 at Knighton Road and the car spun out and hit a fence. Noyes tried to flee on foot but ran right in front of a police car and got hit, then was apprehended by Otto the K9. A preliminary hearing was held on Friday for Noyes on charges of murder, recklessly driving to avoid arrest, being a felon with a gun, possession of drugs for sale and other enhancements including two prior strike offenses. Arraignment is this Friday.
