A pedestrian was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Downtown Burney Thursday night. At around 10:35PM a 63-year-old Burney woman was walking in the westbound lane of Highway 299 near Hudson Street when she was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle. She was declared dead at the scene. The driver fled in an unknown direction. Witness reports were contradictory, with one saying it was a small sports sedan and another saying it was a black Jeep. The CHP is eager to hear from any other possible witnesses.
