Only 7 New COVID-19 Cases Reported In Shasta County

New coronavirus infections and hospitalizations have plummeted since January. But the decline in deaths hasn’t been quite as steep. After weeks of hovering around 2,000 daily deaths, that figure has dropped to about 1,400 U.S. lives lost each day. Public health experts worry that a pandemic-weary public will let down its guard too soon.

Shasta county has lost another two residents to covid, for a total of 190. The latest to die were a man in his 80’s, and a woman over the age of 89, but on the same day only 7 new cases were reported, along with 994 negative tests. The total number of cases so far is 11,170. An estimated 109 people have the virus right now, 9 of them hospitalized and 3 in intensive care.

New categories of workers are now eligible to receive vaccine. Details are at shastaready.org.

Several first dose and second dose vaccination clinics are set for the next few weeks. Information is available at shastaready.org under “Vaccinations”. It can take as long as 8 weeks to gain the full benefits of vaccination.
