CHP: Pickup Driver Hospitalized After Making U-Turn On Highway 44

A driver on Highway 44 who was trying to help someone ended up going to the hospital. At around 11:30AM Tuesday morning, 30-year-old Josh Paoli of Shingletown was eastbound a couple of miles west of Dersch Road when he saw a vehicle on the shoulder that had hit a deer. Wanting to be a Good Samaritan, Paoli started to make a U-turn to go back and help but failed to see an approaching westbound driver and the two pickups collided, almost head-on. Paoli was transported to Mercy Hospital with complaints of pain. The other driver was not injured. Officer Jason Morton says that by the time the CHP got there, the driver who hit the deer was already gone. The highway was blocked for a while, with one-way traffic control in effect until the wreckage was cleared.
