Standing Room Only As Supervisors Notified Of Recall Effort

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors chambers saw its largest crowd in months as 3 members of the board were notified that a recall attempt is underway. Supervisors Leonard Moty, Mary Rickert and Joe Chimenti were formally notified of the effort to recall them. The 3 supervisors have been criticized for the county’s response to the pandemic. Supervisor Joe Chimenti was present in the supervisors chambers and received the formal notice of the attempt to recall him. Rickert and Moty were attending virtually and will be served via certified mail. The Shasta County Elections Department estimates the recall could cost the county anywhere from $200,000 to $400,000. Organizers have 120 days to collect approximately 4,400 valid signatures in each of the three districts.
