Butte County officials are puzzled about a vehicle versus train collision that killed an elderly woman Sunday evening. The CHP says 84-year-old David Hanson of San Jose was behind the wheel of a pickup truck on Highway 162 in the Richvale area when he failed to stop for an approaching train, slamming into the crossing arm before striking the front of the locomotive. An 80-year-old woman, also from San Jose, was killed and Hansen suffered major injuries.
