Redding Fire Department extinguished a vegetation fire Friday morning that put up a dramatic smoke column in Downtown Redding despite its size. The fire was on the hillside off Riverside Drive west of Market Street near the north end of California Street. It’s believed to have started as a warming fire at a homeless camp. The blaze was burning in thick brush and was contained to a spot about 40 by 40 feet.
