The death of a man in his 70s brings Shasta County’s coronavirus death toll to 218. Another 45 cases have been reported from Friday and Saturday, as well as 1,219 negative tests. There have been 11,722 cases so far. An estimated 146 people have the virus right now, 10 people are hospitalized and 3 are in intensive care.
An uncommon variant of coronavirus that originated in South Africa has shown up in 6 patients in Shasta County. It’s the fourth variant found in the county, and all of them are more contagious than the original COVID-19. Vaccine is still showing to be effective in protecting against the variants. Vaccine is free of charge and any Shasta County resident 16 and older is eligible. Appointments can be made through myturn.ca.gov or other options at shastaready.org.

Tehama County has reported 5,445 cases and 56 deaths.
There have been 398 cases and 5 deaths in Trinity County.
1,959 have been reported in Siskiyou County with 21 deaths.
Butte County has reported 181 deaths among their 11,406 cases.
Lassen County has had 22 deaths among their 2,080 cases in the community and 2 deaths among the 3,593 cases in prison. Lassen County moved into the yellow tier last Tuesday.
Humboldt County has had 3,621 cases and 38 deaths.
Modoc County has had 490 cases and 4 deaths.
