Extra CHP Officers Will Be Assigned To I-5 On Friday

Friday is not the day to be in a hurry on Interstate Five. The CHP Northern Division is conducting what they call a “major corridor enhanced primary collision factor enforcement campaign” Friday with a focus on Interstate 5 in Shasta and Siskiyou Counties. That stretch of freeway experienced 1,042 crashes in 2018 and 2019, causing 430 injuries and 14 fatalities. The main causes for the crashes were speed, reckless driving, unsafe lane changes, tailgating, distracted driving and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The chance of an injury crash being a fatal crash increases substantially when seatbelts are not used. A lot of CHP Officers will be out writing tickets Friday.
