DNA Matches Man Suspected Of Multiple Sexual Assaults

A man being called a “serial sex assailant” by the Tehama County District Attorney’s Office was arrested Tuesday after a cross-match D.N.A. hit on a member of the suspect’s family. 36-year-old Steven Craig Michael Haskins, a resident of Chico, is suspected of committing multiple sexual assaults in Chico and Red Bluff between 2014 and 2019. The D.N.A. match was made through the State Department of Justice from samples recovered from 2 sexual assaults in Chico and one in Red Bluff. Haskin’s D.N.A. was not in the system because he had never been convicted of a crime, but a family member was a convicted felon, and that’s where the match was made. Haskins is currently being held on $450,000 bail.
