The family of a man who died in Shasta County Jail has filed a wrongful death suit. 31-year-old John Adena died in custody on September 23rd of 2019 following his arrest the previous month. He was one of three inmates who died in the jail that month. The suit claims that the long-delayed autopsy report, just released in November of last year, shows that Adena died as a result of being beaten by correctional deputies while handcuffed. The suit is asking for unspecified monetary awards.
