State Fish and Wildlife Officers made some raids on cannabis grows last month in Shasta and Tehama Counties due to alleged environmental crimes. In both cases, the growers were diverting water from stream channels that already had unseasonably low water levels, threatening the survival of fish and other wildlife. On April 16th a raid was done along North Fork Elder Creek in Southern Tehama County, which is a habitat for Foothill Yellow Legged Frog and Western Pond Turtle. More than 900 plants destroyed and 2 arrests were made. On April 21st almost 2,000 plants were removed from land off of Lewiston Turnpike Road at the request of the property owner, who said the growers were trespassing. One person was detained and released pending charges.
