Popular Skunk Rescued By Turtle Bay Passes Away

Turtle Bay’s beloved little skunk, Sweet Pea, has passed away. Sweet Pea was 2 or 3 weeks old when she was found in a driveway in Shingletown 8 years ago and nursed back to health. She could not be reintroduced to the wild because of a neurological problem, so she went to live at Turtle Bay. She was one of the most popular animals in the museum’s “Walk on the Wildside” show and was loved by many children over the years. She started showing signs of illness on Monday and died Wednesday. According to Turtle Bay, wild skunks live 2 to 4 years and skunks in zoos live 5 to 7 years, so 8 years was a great run and she changed a lot of people’s attitudes about skunks along the way.
