Wild Life Wardens Tranquilize Mountain Line Seen In Alturas

A young Mountain Lion that wandered into Alturas this week was safely captured. The female lion weighing about 50 or 60 pounds was first seen on Tuesday near a chicken coop in a backyard. She was scared off, but returned to the chicken coop on Wednesday. Thursday morning, state wildlife wardens tried to chase the cat out of town but when it took refuge in a tree in a populated area, the decision was made to shoot her with a tranquilizer dart and relocate her in the wild. Officials say the lion never posed a threat and didn’t do any damage. She likely had separated from her mother just recently and was trying to make her way in the world.
