Shasta County DA Joins Other DA’s To Stop Early Release Of Prison Inmates

Shasta County District Attorney Stephanie Bridgett has joined 41 other DA’s from all over the state in filing an administrative law petition with the state corrections secretary to try and prevent the early release of thousands of prison inmates. Temporary emergency regulations were made public on April 30th that would award additional credits to 76,000 inmates. Because the regulations were passed by the Department of Corrections as an emergency, the normal regulatory process and public input period were bypassed. The petition may be the first step in seeking a court injunction to prevent the regulations from taking effect.
