Former Deputy Ordered To Stand Trial After Fatal Wreck On Highway 299

A former Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputy has been ordered to stand trial for a fatal crash that occurred in 2019 while he was responding at high speed to a non-emergency call. Just after 8 O’clock on November 6th of 2019, Deputy Henry Taylor was heading to a trespassing call that was over an hour and half old, and was already being handled by other deputies. The CHP says he was driving a patrol vehicle, with no emergency lights or siren activated, at around 110 miles an hour on Highway 299 west of Lower Springs Road when he hit a deer. That caused him to lose control and collide head-on with an oncoming Toyota sedan with three occupants. The crash killed a passenger in the Toyota, 28-year-old Harrison Breedlove. The woman driving the car was hospitalized and her 2-year-old child suffered major injuries. A preliminary hearing was held Tuesday, during which Taylor was ordered to stand trial for felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, and two counts of felony reckless driving causing injury. He’ll return to court June 17th.
