An elderly woman died of injuries suffered in a crash on Interstate 5 in the Sacramento River Canyon north of Lakehead Monday morning. At 9:42AM a 2014 Honda Accord was southbound south of Sims Road when it drifted off the pavement and crashed into a rock embankment. The car then continued across the lanes and struck the center median concrete wall. A 94-year-old woman from Alamo, California was in the passenger seat. She died after arriving at Mercy Medical Center. The driver, 72-year-old Gary Peretti of Corvallis, Oregon was hospitalized with moderate injuries. The CHP does not suspect drugs or alcohol. Witnesses are urged to call the CHP at 926-2627.
