Shasta County’s COVID-19 death toll remains at 229. There were another 27 confirmed cases and 874 negative tests reported, for a total so far of 12,409 cases. An estimated 145 people have the virus right now; 14 are hospitalized and 5 are in intensive care.
Vaccinated Californians will be eligible for $116.5 million in prize money. Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the massive pot of money on Thursday as part of an effort to encourage more people to get their shots. The state estimates 12 million eligible Californians have not yet been vaccinated. Ten people will win $1.5 million each on June 15, the state’s planned reopening date. Another 30 people will win $50,000 each, starting on June 4. And the next 2 million people to get shots will each get a $50 gift card.
83 people in Shasta County have tested positive for COVID-19 variants, including one first detected in the United Kingdom, one from South Africa, and two others. All the variants are more contagious than the original COVID-19 and are better able to evade antibodies. These variants are why Shasta County Public Health still recommends distancing, masking and especially vaccinations.
In addition to walk-in vaccinations at the Redding Senior Center on Benton Drive Fridays through Tuesdays, many other options are available for getting vaccinated. A drive-through clinic will be held at public health on Breslauer Way June 9th, with the Pfizer vaccine, as well as the one-shot Johnson and Johnson. Tehama County has reported 5,674 cases and 59 deaths.
There have been 411 cases and 5 deaths in Trinity County.
2,348 have been reported in Siskiyou County with 30 deaths.
Butte County has reported 189 deaths among their 12,008 cases.
Lassen County has had 22 deaths among their 2,143 cases in the community and 2 deaths among the 3,593 cases in prison.
Humboldt County has had 4,279 cases and 43 deaths.
Modoc County has had 514 cases and 4 deaths.
