CHP: Pedestrian Struck And Killed By Vehicle On Highway 44

A 34-year-old Red Bluff man was struck and killed by an SUV on Highway 44 in Redding Tuesday morning. Officers and medical personnel were called to Eastbound 44 just east of Hilltop Drive at 8:24AM. The CHP says that 53-year-old Travis McCamly of Redding was driving a Chevy Tahoe at about 60 miles an hour and as he passed under the Hilltop Drive overcrossing, a man ran into the roadway from the right side. McCamly hit his brakes and tried to avoid striking the man, but he ran directly into his path and was thrown onto the roadway when the SUV hit him. The victim was declared dead at the scene.
