Crews Contain Separate Fires During Memorial Day Heat

A fire between Anderson and Cottonwood burned a few acres off Southbound Interstate 5 Monday afternoon. Reported at around 5PM, the fire was burning in a much-burned area between the freeway and Rhonda Road, which was closed while firefighters were on scene. It was contained at a little more than 4 acres. Another fire broke out less than an hour later off Highway 273 south of Canyon Road, near the R.C. hobby shop. It was threatening homes for a while but thanks to an aggressive Cal-Fire response that included retardant drops and helicopters with water buckets, the fire was contained at around 4 acres.
