Cal-Fire Makes Arson Arrest After Fires In Burney Area

A man from Eastern Shasta County has been arrested for a series of arson fires. Since March, Cal-Fire has responded to several intentionally started fires in the Burney area. Crews were able to contain all the fires fairly quickly, with the largest of them burning around two acres. All the fires were set in remote areas of the woods by someone traveling on foot. On May 7th a fire was burning alongside Highway 299 in the Johnson Park area, and next to it Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies found 24-year-old Cole Rainwater of Fall River Mills. He was booked into jail for arson, and evidence recovered in the investigation reportedly linked rainwater to several of the other arson fires that had remained unsolved. He could face multiple counts of arson and they would carry a sentencing enhancement because California remains in a state of emergency from fire danger.
