A CHP Officer in Butte County was involved in a serious crash Sunday night. At around 10 O’clock an officer was on Palermo Road trying to catch up to a suspected DUI driver and entered the intersection with Lone Tree Road at the same time as a Kia Rio driven by 21-year-old Benjamin Calderiam. The two vehicles smashed into each other and the CHP vehicle kept going off the road, where it rolled over several times down an embankment. The officer had moderate injuries and was able to climb out of the mangled SUV on his own. Calderiam and his passenger, Daniel Drummond, were hospitalized with major injuries.
