More information has been released about a murder in Orland. The Glenn County Sheriff’s Office says 40-year-old Rafael Vargas Chavez of Corning was visiting a relative at 8 O’clock Tuesday night in the area of County Road 20 and County Road M in Orland. Several people came onto the property and there was an altercation, during which Vargas-Chavez was shot. The suspects fled in one direction while Vargas-Chavez fled the other way. He was found in a neighbor’s yard by deputies, who tried to render first aid. After paramedics arrived he was declared dead. The sheriff’s office says he was next to a large cannabis garden. It’s known if that’s related, and there’s no information on the suspects.
