9AM Update: Rock Fire Burns 100 Acres, 45% Contained

A fire west of Redding Tuesday was an all-too-real reminder for Old Shasta residents that fire danger is always present. The Rock Fire started a little before 4PM near Benson Drive and Rock Creek Road at the west end of Old Shasta. No structures were threatened and no evacuations ordered. The area where it started was already nearly barren as a result of 2018’s Carr Fire. As of early Wednesday morning it was 100 acres and 45% contained. The cause is not known, but a cluster of vehicles was seen near the point of origin.
