Big Rig Driver Ejected In Crash On Southbound I-5

A truck and trailer went over a hillside at Lake Shasta Wednesday night, seriously injuring the driver. Shortly after 10 O’clock the semi was southbound near the Shasta Caverns/O’Brien exit when it went off the left side of the pavement and down the steep hill. The driver was ejected and transported by ambulance to a Redding hospital, with CPR underway. The driver’s condition is not known. The crash was first reported by a northbound driver who saw parts from the wreckage in the northbound lanes. The trailer was loaded with bales of aluminum cans and plastic bottles headed for recycling, according to the CHP.
